this afternoon, michelle griego is is in new orleans this morning. good morning to you want how are youen -- good morning to you want -- good morning to you. are you. >> reporter: it's all right. it's a party in new orleans. of course the motto is let the good times roll and that's been going on all week even though there was a 49ers lost last night, the fans are true and faithful. lots of football fans in the french quarter, ravens and 49ers. it was a sea of purple and red and gold. many of them packed the sports bars to watch the game. big screens were going up all over the french quarter so they could watch the game and it was a very emotional one. at one time it looked like the ravens had the win and the 49ers came up and it was such a close game. heartbreaking for the fans who they thought they were going to pull it out. >> still rolling with the 49ers, you know, kaepernick did a good job. didn't fall our way today. it just didn't fall our way. but we'll be back next year. are. >> reporter: they still love their guys and they're hoping that a yo

in the bay area this afternoon. and michelle griego is still in new orleans. i think she's moving there. she joins us live with more on the french quarter, what was it maybe three or four hours ago you were covering the hoopla and here you are again. >> i was nap front of a sports bar at about 1, 1:30 in the morning and there were people celebrating, drinking it up, drown b their sorrows, not a good night for 49ers and their fans. but they are true to their team. take a look, this was in the french quarter. lots of fans were packing the sports bars, watching their team. many came from the bay area. but didn't have tickets to the game. they just wanted to be in the atmosphere and experience what was going on here in new orleans. and you know, it was an emotional game for many fans because at first it looked like the ravens had the win and then the 49ers gave them a little spark of hope and came up and made it a close game. but also a heartbreaking loss. it was not the outcome 49ers fans wanted. still, they love their team. >> reporter: how are you f

12. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. 5:01 now. developing news in the city of vallejo. who shot one man to death and wounded four others? that's what police want to know after a violent incident happened last night. kpix 5 reporter elissa harrington is in vallejo this morning with what we know so far. >> reporter: good morning. the victim has only been identified as a man in his 20s. he and another man were found suffering from gunshot wounds inside of that garage on the 800 block of humboldt street. police were first called out here last night around 8:30 after neighbors reported hearing gunshots. police arrived to find two gunshot victims on the ground inside of the garage. they were taken to the hospital where one of them died. police say that there were actually five people shot here total. three others two men and one woman drove themselves to the hospital. >> everything right now is in the preliminary stages of the investigation. unknown as to who the suspect victims are, whatever transpired here. and

. baltimore wins it. the 9ers are expected in the bay area later this afternoon, michelle griego is still in the big easy this morning. she joins us now after quite a night last night, i guess on bourbon street and the french quarter, right. >> reporter: oh, no kidding, i think every night the crowd was out there in the french quarter and bourbon street and again last night. you know, the super dome holds more than 76,000 people but a lot of people that came into town for the super bowl did not have tickets for the game, so they ended up watching the game in sports bars and that's what happened last night. we went to about three sports bars last night to watch the game with some of the 49ers fans and a bank that put a big screen outside so all the fans could watch. at one point it looked like the ravens had it, then the 49ers came up, playing with some of the fans emotions and the outcome is not what they wanted or expected but the 49ers fans still love their team. how are you feeling right now. >> i'm hurt, but i flew out from california, but you know w

. -- captions by vitac -- www.vitac.com and i'm michelle griego. time is 4:-- an >>> good morning. it's wednesday, a busy february 27. i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. time now 4:30. we're following breaking news out of san francisco's west portal neighborhood. a broken water main flooded homes and cars near 15th and wawona and the water is still gushing. kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran is live and shows us where the water level is at least five feet high. >> reporter: you know, i haven't actually been able to check out how high it is just yet, but let me tell you, look at this one car. you can see just how high the water levels got. we're at the bottom of this area where the water has been pooled here. what you're looking at actually is what we're told by san francisco's water department is sewage. it's just been backed up. that's why it hasn't been able to drain in this area right now. it appears the water level has gone down some but you can see how bad it got in this neighborhood. we have some video of it shot earlier. we are again

. >>> it's monday, february 18th february 18th i'm michelle griego. >> i'm frank mallicoat. nearly 5 on this monday, now, and developing news in san jose where a cop dodged a car that was trying to run him down. >> and he got back into the car and chased the suspect. elissa harrington is in san jose where the chase ended with a deadly crash. >> reporter: good morning and behind me you can see where tow trucks are getting ready to remove the vehicle. the chase lasted 6 miles and ended here when the driver lost control and flipped his car. he died at the scene. now here's what we know. police say that the 20-year-old driver was in a stolen suv with two females, ages 16 and 17. the san jose police officer attempt add routine traffic stop for a different car at capital expressway and towers lane. the officer got out to walk up to the window when the driver of the suv hit the gas. >> talking to the driver of that vehicle, another vehicle came up behind him, heard a loud noise, a roaring of the engine, as it got closer, he shined his flashlight i believe

this morning. >>> good morning everyone, it's monday, february 18th. i'm michelle griego. >> i i'm frank mallicoat. it is 5:30 now. a deadly end to a police chase down in san jose. >> it happened after a driver tried to run down an officer making a traffic stop. kpix 5 reporter elissa harrington is in san jose this morning where the driver of a stolen car died in a dramatic crash. >> reporter: good morning, police say the 20-year-old driver died when his vehicle went off the road and is flipped multiple times. we're getting our first look at the vehicle. we're right by the entrance to highway 101 at blossom hill road. this happened last night at around 11. a san jose police officer had pulled over a different car on capital expressway and when he got out to walk up to the window, he heard the sound of a revving engine and turned around to e -- see an suv with its lights off coming straight toward him. he and other police chased the suspects through the streets of san jose for 6 miles. he was traveling at speeds of 100 miles per hour, had his headligh

morning, it's friday, february 8. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. it's 5:30. breaking news out of the south bay right now. officers say a woman died after falling off a balcony from a san jose condo complex. they say it looks like it was just an accident. kcbs radio's matt bigler joins us live on the telephone from san jose. are some of the streets closed off for the investigation? >> that's right, frank. the entire area around saint james and san pedro is blocked off as this investigation continues. it's around the city heights condo building downtown which is actually the first of the major condo high-rises to be built in the last five or six years or so. on the sidewalk is the body of this young woman who appears to have fallen to her death early this morning. here's what we know about what happened. sometime before 3:00 police got a call about a person down at the intersection. they arrived and found a 24- year-old woman who was declared dead. police say she fell from one of the upper stories of this 14 or so story
captioner: linda marie macdonald. >>> good morning, it's thursday, february 7. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. it's 5:31. we begin with breaking news out of southern california. an officer-involved shooting in riverside county kills one cop, injures two others this morning. these are some live pictures from one of the crime scenes. investigators say the suspected gunman is an ex-l.a. police officer christopher jordan dorner, also wanted for killing the daughter of the former lapd captain and her fiance in irvine over the weekend. officers say dorner is armed and extremely dangerous. there is a blue alert now activated for eight counties in southern california from kern county down to san diego county. police say he wrote an online manifesto threatening to harm police officers, officials and their families. the lapd has placed security at the homes of those officers and officers say dorner was last seen driving a 2005 blue or gray nissan titan vehicle with ski racks on the roof. >>> some breaking news from the north ba
, february 14. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. deputies are at the scene of a homicide investigate at an east bay elementary school. kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran is in san leandro, where she just got off the phone with authorities. what did they say? >> reporter: i just got off the phone with the alameda county coroner's office. the victim was an 18-year-old man but are not releasing his identity. we want to he who is you some shots from chopper 5 right now. you can see that the alameda county sheriff's deputies are still staged outside of hillside elementary school. this is in san leandro. we know shots were reported around 9:00 last night. again, this happened at hillside elementary school. one neighbor told kpix 5 they heard three shots and then they called 911. when officers got to the scene, they found a man on the school property. we're told that he died at the hospital. we still do not know the circumstances surrounding this incident or how many people may be involved. again, we want to let you know that the sh

'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. it is 5:30. and some problems here in the city. no running water available for a san francisco neighborhood. crews are inspecting the damage from a broken water main at mason and filbert. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec joins us now with the workers who have a long project ahead of them. looks like a lot of work. >> yeah. they are going to have to dig up the street behind me filbert street. this is mason and filbert. you can see they do have quite a mess on their hands already. we have cable cars having to be rerouted. they have a bus shuttle that elizabeth has been telling us about. and at least two blocks full of people without water right now. we have also gotten reports of other spots in the city like fisherman's wharf without water. it appears as if these two things are unrelated. but if you are waking up without water, you are not alone this morning. it's going to take them about four to six hours to fix it. there was water gushing into the intersection earlier this morning and the water d

morning, friday february 22. i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. time 6:00. we begin with some breaking news. a car hit a vta bus. let's get right to elizabeth with more. >> reporter: there are roads closed because of that accident in east san jose. the accident happened around 5:15 this morning. and you can see chopper 5 is showing that vta bus involved in the accident. so we got off the phone with police. vta spokesman, as well. tells us a driver ran a red light and hit that vta bus. one person was taken to the hospital. we don't know if the person was in the car or the bus. it's a vta commuter express bus 103. this is a bus not a vta rail line so this won't have a huge ripple effect on vta delays. this is east capitol expressway and tully where police are on scene. they have the intersection blocked off. so avoid that area. it looks like the bus is just sitting there on scene. fire crews have left. we notice passengers from the bus hanging out on the side of capitol expressway and tully. so we are not sure what's going to hap
"timesaver traffic" coming up. >>> good morning, everyone. it's monday, february 25. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. neither 5:30 now. we begin -- nearly 5:30 now. we begin with lost at sea with no life vests. the search is on for a couple with two young children last heard from on a sinking shop off the california coast. elissa harrington is on yerba buena island. apparently the boaters made a raft using a cooler. >> reporter: that's what they were trying to do. they didn't have any liferafts with them. so they tried to put one together using what they had including a cooler and life preserver ring. they are still lost at sea. coast guard has been searching since 4:30 yesterday afternoon when the distress call came in. here's a map from where that happened. four people including two children were in a sailboat that started sinking. about 65 miles off the coast of pillar point in half moon bay. coast guard officials say a husband and wife were on board with their 4-year-old son and his cousin. they were on a 29-foot sal boa

'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. it is 5:00 now. we start with some breaking news. the sweeping manhunt for the fugitive ex-cop wanted in that deadly rampage appears to be over. christopher dorner is believed to have died after foreshoot -- after another shootout with officers. forensic testing will determine if remains found in a burned- out cabin are those of dorner. the cabin caught fire after being surrounded by officers. the manhunt ended in the angeles oaks area of san bernardino county. that's just south of big bear lake and about 20 miles from where dorner's burning truck was found last week. and we go live this morning to the scene in san bernardino county. cbs reporter edward lawrence joins us with details of the end of the manhunt that had gone on for days. >> reporter: investigators waited several hours before going into the burned-out cabin. there was concern about live ammunition that may be in there and their well-being. san bernardino sheriffs did confirm there was a burned body that they found inside there.

's wednesday, february 20. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. it is 5:00 on the nose now. and a san francisco neighborhood waking up with no water. >> yeah. right now crews are on the scene of a water main break by mason and filbert. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec shows us why it may take several hours apparently to fix this break, anne. >> reporter: first they are trying to clean up the mets in the intersection of filbert and mason and will have to go underground and repair the mess. a 12" water main line broke underground. they are cleaning up the cable car line. that's also going to be affected today. they say it's going to take about four to six hours to have this all fixed up. water was gushing into the intersection here a couple of hours ago. and the water department doesn't know why the water main broke. it could be old age, ground movement or weather. it was cold overnight. they say only two blocks of filbert though are without water right now. there are other reports of outages in other nearby neighbor
